Do Kava and Dreaming go Hand in Hand?

Best Fiji Kava on Mar 20th 2021

We are often asked whether kava is beneficial for dream enhancement or vivid and lucid dreaming work. To be honest, we've never directly tested out kava's effects on dreaming. Everyone in my family drinks kava daily, so we wouldn't necessarily notice if there is an effect. We haven't found any anecdotal evidence on the internet to suggest any impact on dreams, either. Nevertheless, it seems that kava and dreaming go hand in hand, mainly because it helps bring about restful sleep. After all, if one is sleeping well, it makes sense that one will have more dreams and retain them better.

I've personally read many articles about other plants such as valerian root, Calea zacatechichi, wild lettuce, sea bean, and many others used to increase the frequency of recollection of dreams by peoples all over the world from all different countries and cultures. For example, in many traditional African belief systems, it is believed that contact with the ancestors occurs through dreams. They use a number of plants to induce more vivid dreaming. Of course, kava is not one of them. It would be interesting to discover what an indigenous African dream worker would think about kava!

While there are countless medical, recreational, and ceremonial uses for kava hailing from all over the Pacific islands, We have not been able to find any documentation of kava being used for dream work. It does, however, have a long history of being used to facilitate communication with the ancestors. Here in the Pacific islands, we are known. Anyone who contacts spirits and ancestors happens more quickly in the dream state, so perhaps kava is secretly a potent dream-enhancing plant medicine after all!

I'm an avid fan of lucid dreaming and have kept a dream journal since 2001. Unfortunately, I can't say whether or not kava is responsible for my frequent and vivid lucid dreaming, as I have been working with the plant quite frequently since a teen. This is the case with most of my family members, making it difficult for me to make a direct personal conclusion regarding kava's effects on dreaming. If you have had any beneficial experiences with kava and dreaming, please get in touch and let me know!
